+ Staying in Santa Cruz
06:06 PM
So, I've been in Santa Cruz for a few days now. Beth took me to Santa Cruz on Monday morning, and I've been staying at my old roommate, Vladi's apartment. He has three other roommates living here now, Brian, Braden, and Sam. They're pretty cool and lay-back people, not to mention that Brian and Braden are super hot. Anyway, they've been really nice to me too, which is a plus. When I first got here, the apartment was so messy that it's impossible to find a thing, but we kinda clean up the whole place today, so it's much nicer now.
I registered for my classes for this Fall semester Tuesday afternoon right at my registration time. I got in three classes and is waitlisting one. All of them are lower-division classes for my major. I need to get them all done as soon as possible so I can apply to my major and start upper-division classes. That's why I wanna get in all four classes, but I guess I can take the last one concurrently with my upper-division classes next quarter if I don't get in it this quarter.
I met Rafael Tuesday afternoon also. We went to Chilli's for lunch and I went to Cabrillo College with him to get his textbooks. We had a great time. We talked about his up-coming show this Sunday. I'm gonna be designing the CD cover for his band's first EP also, so we have gone through some details on that as well.
Since I've decided to skip the orientation on the 9th, I asked Kyle if I can ride down to San Diego with him so I don't have to deal with staying with someone down there before moving in and such. And Kyle said he's totally cool with it, so I guess I get that all figured out now. That would also give me a bit more time up here. I still want to get everything all settled down as soon as possible though.
You guys ever heard of those Google Mail account that has 1GB? They're not yet open to the general public to sign up. You can only get an account with an invitation. Guess what? I got one yesterday!! I got a GMail account!! A HUGE thanks to Mike for that!! Yeah, an 1GB email account. What am I gonna do with it??
Last night we watched Final Destination 2 on TV. I've seen it already but Brian hadn't. Well, during the movie, Brian was like touching himself all over. Well, not like touching himself touching himself, but like frequently adjusting his "thing" and stuff. He was topless too. Gosh, it was such a tease and torture. I hate surrounded by hot straight guys, especially when they started talking about girls!! Like last night when we were watching TV, and Braden asked "Don't you think she's hot?" and I was like "uh... I guess... she's alright." It's just killing me, even though they're such eye-candies, but I would rather not being tortured this way...

Mike | 2004 09 03 | 09:03 AM PST
Glad to hear you registered for all your classes. And hopefully you'll get the one that you're on the wait list for. And you're welcome for the Gmail account. =) Final Destination 2.. the movie sounds familiar but I don't remember how it is. But i'm sure i've never seen it before. lol

Karen | 2004 09 03 | 10:14 AM PST
ohh hope you get into the class you want! ^^ And the layout you designed for the band looks awesome!! So pro xP And can't wait to see the cd cover! You are gonna be famous Clem xDDD

Dave | 2004 09 03 | 10:14 AM PST
haha, "not to mention that [they're] super hot" haha, oh clement. that's always a good thing. hot straight guys do gay guys a public service, frankly.

Claire | 2004 09 04 | 08:57 AM PST
heh, that's gotta suck. do the straight guys know you're not? that's cool with the band thing. how envious am I lol. I never saw final destination 1 so never saw 2 *grumbles* cause someone said you had to know the plot of the first one. i think the gist of it is everyone ends up dying? ah! either 1 or 2 was the one where the train went passed and fwapped his head off, right? *amused*

Steven | 2004 09 04 | 12:09 PM PST
Welcome to the club of internet trends! (Yay G-mail!). As for hot straight guys being teases... never play soccer. The guys on my team act SO gay all the time, booty smacking and what not, and pretending to kiss or something... always without shirts, gorgeous bodies... but NO... then they go on about how they fucked their skank the night before. What trash.

+ Airman Basic Gig
01:42 PM
Saturday late afternoon I went to a movie with Vicky, Tomo, and Stan (my friends from Cabrillo). We watched Napoleon Dynamite, and it was so funny. Weird, yes, but funny!! I don't get why it's only showing in selected theaters. We got out of the movies at around 7pm, and I knew I should've left at that time 'cause I was suppose to go to Vladi and his roommates' first football game of the season. But I didn't, instead, I went to Vicky's house with Tomo and watched a Hong Kong movie, The Eye 2. I haven't seen the first one yet, but I guess they aren't really connected in any way. It was pretty scary though. So I ended up not getting back until 10pm, and I missed the whole football game. Oh well, they lost 24-49 that night anyway, so it's not like I missed a big game or anything. I would just get pissed if I go.
Yesterday Vladi took me to the storage, so I could organize my stuff a little bit. Yesterday night Stephen and I went to Monterey for a gig. Airman Basic was playing at the Blue Fin Cafe there last night. It was an awesome show. They all played really well, especially Rafael's guitar skill. They just rocks my socks! They took some pictures of the band last night too, so hopefully they'll be able to send me some to put on the website or something later. We'll see.

Dave | 2004 09 08 | 06:58 PM PST
I'm glad you like ND! I'm going to see it with my friends this weekend! Why am I glad you liked it? Oh, for selfish reasons. I find that you have good taste in movies ;) and therefore I won't be wasting my time watching something.

Erin | 2004 09 08 | 07:06 PM PST
I want to see Napoleon Dynamite; I've heard such good things about it. =)

Karen | 2004 09 09 | 12:00 AM PST
oo The Eye 2 link didnt work =x Sounds like you are having a good time =)

+ Black & White Converse All-Star
08:45 PM
Have you guys seen the season premiere of The Real World: Philadelphia on Tuesday night? I think this is gonna be an awesome season! Why? Because their house is HUGE and very impressive this season. But ya, they gotta give them a huge house... they're living in Philadelphia for Christ's sake. Not Paris; not San Diego; Philadelphia... How are you gonna get people to live in Philadelphia if they don't have an impressive house? But the main reason I think this is gonna be a great season is because there are TWO gay guys in the house!! And most importantly, one of them is totally a stereotype-breaker!! Karamo is from Texas, black and straight-acting! His roommates were shocked to find out that he's gay too. I bet a lot of people in real life would too, and that's good! Because gay people are all different. They're not all girlie and sissy-acting, so fuckin' open your mind and stop stereotyping!! Anyway, I just know that it's gonna be an interesting season.
Beth came to Santa Cruz to pick me up on Wednesday morning. We picked up my stuff from the storage, and then we went to Ross and I got some bedsheets there. Anyway, so I'm back in Santa Clara, and I'll be here until around the 15th when I leave for San Diego with my roommate.
Yesterday night Tim and I went to City Beach Santa Clara, where Beth is working at, and worked out. I think that was like my first time ever, and it was soooo tiring. I felt like my biceps were gonna fall off. We played ping-pong after the work out session too, so I was really sore. My muscles hurt like hell this morning when I woke up.
Beth and I went to the mall this afternoon, and I got a pair of black and white Converse All-Star for $23!! Good deal, huh? I've been looking for one ever since this summer. That's just so cool I found it for $23! Well, sometimes it's nice being small, 'cause kid-sized stuff are usually cheaper. I also got a USB ethernet adaptor as well 'cause I left my ethernet cardbus in Santa Cruz. It was only $13 so it wasn't that bad, and since it's a USB interface one, now it won't take up one of my cardbus slots anymore.

skindy | 2004 09 11 | 04:36 AM PST
They don't even live in REAL Philly. They live in the richy rich white people neighborhood. I thought it was disappointing. I wanted to see if they could hand the real gangsta life of REAL Philly. Center City! I walked past the neighborhood they living on, soo boring! But the two gay guys, I love them both!

peter | 2004 09 11 | 05:47 AM PST
yeah, i already checked out the house on mtv.com and it's just incredible. i couldn't believe it - i mean, it just looks like a castle! what a pity they only air new seasons like half a year later on mtv germany.. i'm sure it's gonna be a great season!

Mike | 2004 09 11 | 01:08 PM PST
The Real World. I always hear about the show, but since I don't have MTV I've never seen it.

Lei | 2004 09 12 | 03:49 PM PST
Ooh, two gay guys. I always love when there's a "stereotype-breaker"; it always bothers me when everything gay is stereotyped. >=[ And wow, nice price for the shoes. =]

Karen | 2004 09 12 | 07:28 PM PST
oo converse =) I love them coz they are so comfy! oh I havent watched Real World for soo long coz they either play the old ones or air it way past my bedtime =( Oh! and btw, I was wondering if you live near a place where they sell the Livestrong bracelet? If you do please let me know ;) Thanksss!! =)

Trent | 2004 09 13 | 06:17 AM PST
I'm wearing my pair of grey and white ones that I got for $20 in a half-off sale. Man, I love shoe sales.

Nik | 2004 09 14 | 02:20 AM PST
I saw RW once...when I was actually at a place that had cable. >.I saw RW once...when I was actually at a place that had cable. >.< But yeah breaking stereotypes is a good thing; I love it when people think that those that are shy are "boring" or "too innocent" to be around. When they get to know me, things change! lol ;)

+ San Diego Here I Come
09:48 PM
Beth and I rented The Passion of the Christ last Saturday. It was a really hard movie to watch. Don't get me wrong; I like the movie a lot. But it's a movie that I wouldn't wanna watch again anytime soon, because the tortures in there are just unbearable.
Sunday night Tim and I went to City Beach Santa Clara to work out again. I think I'm kinda starting to like working out and building muscles. I mean, being buff is not really my thing, but a bit muscles is nice too.
Anyway, Kyle and I are gonna drive down to San Diego tomorrow early morning. And by early morning I mean REALLY EARLY morning... Well, we hope to leave Santa Clara by 3:30am and drive the rest of the night trying to beat the traffic. His car is not that big though, so hopefully we'll be able to fit all his and my stuff in it. If not, I'll have to leave a couple boxes here and have Beth send them down for me. WE'll see how that go... Anyway, I'll try to post again as soon as I get my computer and the internet hooked up down there. San Diego here I come!!

Erin | 2004 09 15 | 08:30 AM PST
I haven't see The Passion yet. I'm kind of scared too because I'm not a religious person, and I'm afraid I won't get the references and it won't affect me like it affected other people. They're showing it at my school next month though, so I'll probably be dragged along to see it. Good luck with the moving!I haven't see The Passion yet. I don't think I ever wanna see The Passion Of The Christ. I think the scenes are way too scary for me. lol You're leaving at 3:30 am?! I'd be tired. Very tired...

Thiri | 2004 09 15 | 09:09 PM PST
yea, i don't think anyone would like to watch a guy geting tortured over and over again. have fun. and hey!!! i know its been a long time since i have been to your site but... um... what ever happened to whats his name??? steven was it?

Dave | 2004 09 17 | 09:45 AM PST
Ive been putting off watching the Passion. I'll get around to it sooner or later. I loved the first three seasons of the Real world. My mom, brother and sister and I would watch it religiously! But now I think it's gone the same way as Survivor.. over done. What ever happened to Road Rules? I friggen loved that show!

Karen | 2004 09 17 | 11:21 PM PST
wow 3:30am is REALLY early! yikes~ .... oh I still havent watched Passion of the Christ yet =(

+ Getting Ready in San Diego
03:32 PM
I'm down in San Diego already. Well, I've been down here since this Wednesday. Kyle and I got down to San Diego at around noon on Wednesday, and we met up with Jen (our other roommate) and went to the apartment complex we're gonna be living in and signed the lease. Kyle and Jen are the only two on the lease; I'm not on the lease because I didn't have all my paperwork filled out and if I need to do it, they'll have to do credit check on me and all those things, so we decided to just leave me off the lease and save me some troubles. Jen brought a couch, a dining table, and some kitchen stuff from her home. Jen's boyfriend has a truck, so we moved Kyle and Jen's stuff from their old apartments, and got most of the things all setup. Jen left with her boyfriend that night and she's not gonna be back until next Tuesday. Because I didn't have a bed so I just slept on the couch that night. Well, I was up for more than 36 hours, so I was dead tired that I could sleep pretty much anywhere anyway.
Thursday Kyle and I went to school to use the internet there, so that I could find myself a bed online. We did find a twin size one (a full set with mattress, boxspring, and frame) for $30. But we had no way to bring it back to our apartment since we don't know anyone who has a truck, so I called up this moving service and had to pay them $40 to move my bed, which is kinda ridiculous that the moving cost more than the bed itself. Anyway, it was still a good deal to get a bed for $70 total, so I'm not complaining. We also called to get the cable TV + internet services, but our setup appointment is not until next Wednesday morning, so we're not gonna have internet or TV for a week. We also went to Target for some household stuff.
Yesterday we went to Fry's to get a wireless router for the apartment and a wireless cardbus for my laptop 'cause UCSD has wifi internet coverage for the entire campus, so it's just convenient to have wireless access on my laptop. I also got a pair of speakers so that I can hook them up to my iPod and my computer. We also went to Wal-Mart for some more household stuff. I'm still looking for a desk to put in my room, so there's place for my computer and stuff. Besides that, I'm pretty much all set.
I'm on campus with Kyle right now 'cause we don't have internet and TV until next Wednesday. Hopefully I'll be able to post again before that, if not, I'll post again next Wednesday. Have an awesome weekend!

Mike | 2004 09 18 | 06:10 PM PST
Well I'm glad to hear you bought a bed. Too bad the moving service costed more than the bed. =( But it's all good. And no internet or tv until Wednesday?! I'd die. lol That has happen to me for about one day and it was brutal. LOL

Dave | 2004 09 19 | 12:14 PM PST
aww, clement! you get to buy all new stuff for your place!! are you excited? tell me your excited =)

Caroline | 2004 09 22 | 11:56 PM PST
Shopping for places is fun! And this layout just rocks, had to vote for it as your best.

September 25, Sat
+ Coming Out to Jen
04:51 PM
There are so many things happened this past week, I don't even know where to begin. Anyway, so we got all the other stuff that we needed for the apartment, and kinda got everything settled by Monday. I went to an international student orientation on Tuesday afternoon, and I met a few people there, nothing too exciting. Jen came down on Tuesday night, and we helped her to move her stuff into the apartment and such.
Anyway, there was a huge thing happened Wednesday morning. Okay, I've signed up for an orientation called Q-Camp for all the new incoming LGBTQI students on Wednesday morning. I needed a ride to school for the orientation so I told my roommates I had an orientation for my major to attend that morning. Jen gave me a ride to school, and then she said she needed to do something at school as well and that she could take me to where my orientation was... I was so nervous and I said I needed to check the email again for the orientation information 'cause I forgot where it was gonna take place, and she insisted that she would go with me... So we went and checked my email and I told her the orientation was being held in the Cross Cultural Center. Well, I knew at that time that she had to suspect something already. Then on the way walking there, she asked me what exactly was the orientation, and so I told her it was a Q-Camp, and she was like "so, are you...?", and I said yes. To my surprise, she was more happy and excited than I was; she was literally jumping up and down. Well, she explained to me that she has always wanted a gay best-friend and roommate, and now she finally got her wish. Her gaydar is really good though 'cause the first day when we first came down to San Diego and met up, she has already kinda suspect that I'm gay, but the thing is I'm totally not feminine at all, and no one has ever suspected that I migh be gay. Well, she was very supportive and she even told me to find some gay clubs in the area and we would go together and such.
So, I went to the Q-Camp and there were only a few cute and hot guys, but they're all out of my league. It wasn't too exciting either, but that was only an orientation for newly admitted Freshmen and transfees, so hopefully there're more good-looking boys in the club.
Classes began on Thursday. I went to the class I was waitlisting in the morning. It was a Modern Art class. The professor has a British accent. I thought that was cool 'cause he reminded me of my secondary school teacher in Hong Kong who was from England and also had a British accent. The lecture was really boring though. Anyway, I'm gonna try to add that class, and the professor said it's totally cool, but the only problem is that the lecture is conflicting with a session of my other class. I mean, I can just go to a different session, but I'm not sure if the system would let me add the class if there's a conflict in the schedule. Even if I don't get in that class this quarter, I can just take it next quarter, but I would rather get it done and over with. We'll see how that goes. I'm already taking 14 units already anyway. I had an Introducton to Computing in the Arts class that night and it was a bit more interesting. It seemed more closely related to my major as well, but I've a feeling that there're gonna be a lot of projects.
I didn't have any classes yesterday. So I went shopping with Jen at a mall near the school. I only got a few pairs of shorts from Abercrombie, but we had so much fun shopping. It's just nice hanging out with someone you can totally be yourself with. Anyway, last night Jen and I went to the fraternity party near our apartment. Jen knows one of the frat brothers, so he invited us to go. Jen got me drunk as soon as we got there and I had a blast. We checked out guys and danced. Jen kept helping me by going around and asking cute guys are they gay... It was so funny. I'm just so glad that I met Jen. She's such an awesome person and a wonderful roommate. We're gonna have so much fun this year!!

Karen | 2004 09 26 | 12:11 AM PST
Aww I am really happy for you =) Yeah life is full of many hidden happy surprises! xD

Jon | 2004 09 26 | 12:43 AM PST
Dman it sounds like you had a BLAST that nite. I am so happy for you dude!!! Sry, I havent got a chance to call u yet, my friend took me out tonite, hopefully I will have time tmrw to give you a call k? Take care!!

Mike | 2004 09 26 | 03:23 PM PST
It sounds like you had lots of fun. And I'm glad to hear that Jen is an awesome person.

Dave | 2004 09 27 | 07:44 PM PST
What the fresh hell is with straight girls wanting gay best friends? I dunno, it's like we posess some kind of freaky superhomonatural powers that can help them in the daily lives and solve decorating faux pas and fix their relationships.. granted we can do all that and more but, really, we're meant for more than just that. Q-Camp ought to be a blast (in the ass) im sure all the gay guys hook up in one way or another-- and you're totally cute and fuckable Clem, no guy is out of your league

September 27, Mon
+ Frat Party, Bonfire, & Hillcrest
03:26 PM
So, my second weekend here in San Diego is awesome!! Friday night Jen and I went to a welcome party at a frat house. I think I've mentioned it in my last entry, but I'll talk about it again with more details since that was like the first frat party I've ever been to. One of Jen's long-time friends is in the fratenity, so he invited Jen and I to go to the party. They had this Greek theme for the party and so most guys were wearing a toga, showing off half their chest. Jen tried to get me drunk as soon as we got there. We each had a Jungle Juice, which is like mix with vodka and Cool Aid. Anyway, it wasn't too bad. By the time I finished half of it I already had a buzz! We stayed with Jen's friend and talked to him most of the time, but occasionally we would check out guys here or there. Then there was this cute looking half Italian half Japanese boy came over and started talking to us. I told Jen that I thought he was cute, and then Jen just bursted out asking him by any chance if he was gay. The guy then looked at us weird, and my face just turned so red I thought it was gonna expose right there. Then Jen kind of made up an excuse saying that she has wanted a gay friend for so long. Smooth, wasn't she? Then through out the night whenever we saw a cute guy, she just went up to them and ask them if they were gay... That just cracked me up. It was so nice of her though, always looking out for me. We also danced for a little bit. I'm not good a dancer myself, but when you're drunk, you can do anything, and who cares what other people think? It's not like they're gay or anything. Did I mentioned that I almost got my ass kicked twice that night? There was this guy standing in the corner of the backyard peeing. At first I didn't know what he was doing, so I point at him asking Jen "what's he doing over there?" Then this frat brother walked by and saw me, and he was like "are you laughing at someone or something?" OKAY!!! Just chill out, dude! Well, he just kinda walked away, so no biggies! Then toward the end of the night, I was pretty drunk and sitting on a couch. Then this big ass guy just fell down face down in front of me. I could tell he was really trashed. After he didn't get up for a while, a few guys started helping him. I was sitting on the couch the whole time and then suddenly I heard them yelling at me "Move, dude! MOVE!!" It took me a while to register that they were talking to me! So I got up as quick as I can, and they put that guy on the couch. We left not long after that 'cause it was getting kinda late.
Once we got back to our apartment. Me, Jen and Kyle started playing some card games. Then all of a sudden an alarm went off in one of the buildings in our apartment complex, so we went out to the balcony to check out what was going on. It was almost 2:30am, and people were walking out of that apartment building. Jen called 911 and not long after a firetruck came. We figured it was probably just a false alarm since we didn't see any smoke or fire or anything. When we started going back into the apartment from the balcony, Jen walked right into the screen door and bent the door. Me and Kyle just laughed our heads off. It was so funny!! She literally walked right into it face first without realizing there was a screen door! Well, I was still kinda drunk, and that just made it even funnier. Well, except the major headache I had toward the end of the night, it was a great time.
Saturday night there was this LGBTQIA bonfire at Fiesta Island on Mission Bay. Jen and I were suppose to go together and have fun, but Jen's boyfriend came to San Diego in the afternoon to surprise her. At first I thought we might've to cancel going to the bonfire, but she insisted that we would all go together. So, that was what we did. Jen, her boyfriend, and I went to a sushi place for dinner and then went to the bonfire at around 7:30pm. They left a little after 'cause her boyfriend drove all the way down to spend time with her and I didn't want them to waste their precious time with me, so I told them to go and do whatever they want. There weren't too many people at the bonfire. I just stayed with my friend Michael and this guy we met there called Dan most of the night. There wasn't much going on, and there wasn't any cute or hot guys either. We stayed until 10pm when the beach closed down. Dan gave me a ride home. We exchanged numbers since he's kinda new to the whole LGBT thing as well, so we can kinda help each other out.
Anyway, Dan called me the next morning saying he was free for the day and if I wanna go to Hillcrest, which is a gay area in San Diego, we could go together. Since I had nothing to do yesterday, so I decided to go to Hillcrest with him. We had a great time just exploring the community. You can see rainbow flags almost everywhere, and gay couples holding hands and kissing on the street. It's almost like a heaven for gay people. People are so relaxing there too. I was gonna get a Hillcrest shirt as a souvenir but they didn't have my size, so bummer! We went into a magazine store and there were more people checking out gay magazines than straight ones. What a scene! Even though we went there in the afternoon so there wasn't too much going on, it was still a great time seeing all those openly gay people. Anyway, we'll definitely go again if we've the chance.

Mike | 2004 09 27 | 04:13 PM PST
A stupid question from Mike : What's a frat party? I've heard about them but never knew what it was. xP But it sounds like you had fun. =)

Erin | 2004 09 27 | 05:09 PM PST
It sounds like you had a blast. I've never been much of a party person, but I do enjoy watching drunk people. I get a kick out of them, especially the ones that laugh all the time. It's awesome that you're having fun. =)

Dave | 2004 09 27 | 07:47 PM PST
just like out of a movie-- priceless.. walking through the screen door-- hehehahah drunk ass girl

12:45 PM
I only had one class yesterday from 5 to 7pm, so I slept in until 1pm, which I know was pretty bad. I went to school with Kyle at 4:30pm, but the traffic was really bad, and I was like 5 mins late to class. Well, it was a huge class in one of those huge lecture halls, and there was still not enough seats, so I had to sit on the stairs. It was an Intro to 2D Art-Making class and the professor has a really thick accent. It wasn't like one of those European accents but something really ugly, so I only understood like half of what he was saying. The lecture was hella boring 'cause he kept showing slides and talking about them but we didn't really understand what the hell he was saying. I've a studio session for that class later today so hopefully the TAs will be able to help.
After the class I met up with Dan and we went to the first LGBTQIA meeting at the LGBT Rescource Center on campus. There were a few more cute guys there this time. I didn't stay for too long though 'cause I was suppose to ride home with Kyle after he got out of his class at 8pm.
I didn't go to bed until 1:30 last night and I had to woke up at 7:30 this morning, but I slept way too much the night before so I guess it was alright. Kyle and I carpooled with Jen to school this morning. We got to school parking lot and took the shuttle to the main campus area where most the main lecture buildings are. Right after I got off the shuttle I realized that I didn't have my cell phone in my side jean pocket anymore, and the shuttle has gone already. I just hope that my cell phone slipped out in Jen's car and not on the shuttle. Kyle and Jen are gonna go check it out once they get out of class later, and Kyle's gonna meet up with me and let me know. Man, I've lost my set of keys just last Friday, and now I lost my phone! What the fuck's wrong with me!!? I really really really hope that my cell phone's in Jen's car.
I had the Formations of Modern Art class this morning at 9:30. The professor let me add the class, so now I'm in and officially taking 18 units. The professor has an European accent which I like, but the lecture was just boring. He just went through slides and talked about them. He was trying to be funny every once a while but it just didn't help much. The class itself is just boring... I mean, it's an art history class for Christ's sake! How else can you make it fun?
I've a studio session for Intro to 2D Art-Making at 1pm, but I think I'll try to talk to the TAs and hopefully go to a different session instead. We'll see how that goes. I also have an Intro to Media class tonight from 7-10, and then I'm gonna meet up with Jen and we're gonna watch Fahrenheit 9/11 at the student center theater. I've heard alot of good things about the documentary when it first came out in the U.S. this summer, so I'm kinda expecting alot from the film.

[UPDATED 3:30PM PST] Yeah, I found my cell phone. It was really in Jen's car!! Gosh, I'm gonna have to be more careful with it from now on after the close call. I got out of my Intro to 2D Art-Making studio session hella early, 'cause the TA just assigned our first project and let us go. I'm gonna try to get in the session right before that one though 'cause I don't like when there're long breaks between my classes. I would rather go to one after an other and get them over with. I'm gonna talk to my TA and the TA of the other session I'm trying to get in and see how it goes. It shouldn't be too big of a problem.
We've a vendor fair going on this week on campus, so after my studio session I went to check it out. There was this table for posters, and while I was browsing through the posters, Jen and Kyle showed up, and Jen got two posters for $20 and I got 3 for $32. It wasn't like a good deal but it wasn't too bad either. I got two large size movie posters - Troy and X2, and a Smashing Pumpkins one. I don't really like Smashing Pumpkins that much but the poster was really vintage feeling. Jen just went back to the apartment and since I've a class at 7pm, I'm staying at school to try to get some readings done.

I'm not a big fan of teacher's with accent since it's pretty hard to understand them. Especially my science/homeroom teacher. I can't understand his speaking or writing.

I'm SO glad you didn't lose your cellphone!! It'd just SUCK so bad! =)

OMG, your layout is the sex!

+ Fahrenheit 9/11
01:02 AM
The Intro to Media lecture was alright last night. The professor seems like a cool person. He was playing Jackass before the class starts. There was this cute European guy sitting like two seats away to my right. I don't really know him, but I recognize him from the International Student Orientation. He was one of the students from the exchange program, and he's either from England or Germany, I'm not too sure. You know how usually you see these people that you think are kinda hot or cute, but then every once in a while there're a few that stand out, like you feel a special chemistry towards them even before you know them? That's how I feel, like I actually kinda like this guy, which is kind of ironic, since I don't even know his name. But well, I can't really control my feeling, and it's not like he's gonna be gay and would actually like me back anyway. So ya, better just forget about him than keep thinking about him and torturing myself. Anyway, during the 3-hour lecture, the professor played the movie Rear Window, which is like a classic 50's Hitchcock film. I think our first assignment is to pick a scene from the movie and storyboard that scene. I'm not too sure about the details though.
After the class I met up with Jen and we watched Fahrenheit 9/11. It's an AWESOME documentary. It's really powerful and moving. Yes, I agree it's somewhat bias as how the film is presented, and it might not be covering both sides of the story, but considering the media has been bias about the war in Iraq (because the major channels are owned by Bush-friendly media corporations) and there were all those shit going on that the Bush administration has been hiding from us, it's only fair to show the other side of the story and uncovering the TRUTH to the American people! The truth needs to come out and we're supposed to be informed!! The documentary covered most of the post-9/11 issues such as the bombing in Afghanistan and the war in Iraq. There's this part where a mom, whose son was a soldier killed in action during the war, reading a letter sent from his son a week before he died. I was so moving that my eyes were all watery halfway through the letter. A lot of things mentioned in the film really hit home. It also has a few funny moments to keep the film interesting. Overall, I think it's a huge success! But of course, to the blind stupid Republicans, they can always say that the documentary is bias and disregard all the content presented in it. C'mon! The truth is right in there, and how can they just ignore them!?? Well, I guess to quite a few conservatives, ignorance is all they want, 'cause it gives them a reason to keep on believing in what they believe.
We didn't get back to the apartment until almost 1am and we picked up a few Red Bulls for today 'cause I had a class at 9am this morning and we all need to get up pretty early. Anyway, I went to bed at around 2am and I got up at 7:30am, so I only got like 5 and a half hours of sleep last night. We got to school, and I went to my first Intro to Media lab session. We watched the making-of bonus feature on the Rear Window DVD, and discussed it a little bit. Anyway, there're two lab sessions that go together but one of them was conflicting my Formations of Modern Art lecture, so I went and talked to the TA to see if I can attend a different lab session instead, but he said the two sessions are together and cannot be substituted for other session. So... I dropped my Formations of Modern Art class. Well, it was probably too much for me anyway, taking 18 units my first quarter at a new school with a new system... Okay, I'm just trying to make myself feel better about dropping down to 14 units. I guess 14 units aren't too bad for first quarter, and now I've more time to focus on my other classes, especially since I've so much reading I need to do, and there're gonna be alot of projects too 'cause all three of my classes are basically studio and production classes.
I had an Intro to Computing in the Arts lab session this afternoon, and it was way better than what I thought. There are totally 4 TAs and the professor has mentioned that each of them will be focusing on a certain aspect of the subject. And the TA of my session, Caleb is focusing on the web-designing and photoshop aspect, which is like exactly what I want to do. Seems like the labs are gonna be fun. Today he taught about basic HTML stuff, so everyone who already has HTML-coding experience could leave early. So I left and met up with Kyle and we took the bus home together. We're still trying to get the whole bus route figured out. There's a bus that goes through Mira Mesa (the area in San Diego where we live), but the bus stop isn't exactly close to our apartment so we still needed to walk for like half an hour to get home.
Tonight I talked to Jon (a friend of mine from Hong Kong who's living in Chicago right now) for more than 3 hours. At first I was trying to convince him to vote for Kerry in this up-coming Presidential election, then it turned into this huge argument. He said he's not planning on voting at all because he's a conservative and he doesn't agree with Kerry. But since he is gay, I just can't understand how can he just basically "give up" his rights and equality by not voting for the person who is gonna help him (and indirectly supporting the idiot who is trying to ban gay-marriages). We basically talked about American politics and then it turned into world politics and it was just going crazy. See, here's the thing, he's an awesome person and it's fun talking to him and everything, but we just don't agree on alot of political and social stuff. I guess there're always 3 things you don't bring up among friends - religions, history, and politics.
Today I got the sudden urge to get my own domain name, since I've never had one before. So... I got a domain name. I'm so bad at this... like when I wanna buy something, I just go ahead and buy it without thinking about it twice, which can be bad sometimes. Anyway, it wasn't like too expensive though. I registered the domain for 2 years from GoDaddy for $15.90 (they were on sales too), and I got the $5.99/month hosting plan from AtomHost, so it wasn't too bad. I'm not gonna announce the domain name yet since I haven't set up anything yet. I was gonna make a layout for it tonight but then I talked to my friend for 3 hours straight, so that kinda took up most of the night. Anyway, keep an eye open for any news of my up-coming domain.

Holy crap you busy boy! What HAVEN'T you done lately. I don't know how you manage to do alll your school work + have a social life and see movies and time to setup a new domain!!!

mark | 2004 09 30 | 03:16 PM PST
nice layout, and plenty of content - good work, fella. ps - as an english guy, it's hilarious that you say a dude was "either english or german"...those two nationalities have reputations (back in their respective countries) for being about as alike as chalk and cheese! ;-) ...but i guess we're not so different to look at, so i know what you're saying. anyway, keep up the good work here.

What about Bowling for Columbine? They failed to mention that in Asia, we die of machetes instead of guns =p

+ First QPOC Meeting
10:56 PM
I'm really tired today. I didn't get too much sleep last two nights; probably like 5 hours each night. So far I can still handle it, but I definitely need to start going to bed a bit earlier from now on. In our Intro to Media discussion section this morning, we got in groups of 4 and we're gonna all work on our first project, which is recreating a scene from the movie Rear Window. Today our TA kinda briefly introduced the process and key elements of storyboarding. Basically we're gonna go through all the steps and the whole production process trying to come up with a scene that's as close to the original scene as possible. Seems like it's gonna be a fun project, and we've about 5 weeks to work on it, so we'll see how that goes.
This afternoon when I went to the library I saw Sonny (the guy who I met online and is working at Cafe Roma on campus), so we decided to study together. I mean, we basically just sit beside each other and I read my text while he read his, so it wasn't too much of a "study together".
Tonight after my 5-7pm Intro to Computing in the Arts lecture I went to the first QPOC (Queer People Of Color) meeting, and there was this guy called Raf that I kinda like. He was one of my group leaders during group discussion in Q-Camp. But like he didn't really go to any meetings or events until tonight, so this was like the second time I saw him. Anyway, he's like one of the youth advisors for a new local queer youth bi-monthly publication called Outspoken, and they're currently accepting submissions. I'm interested in submitting some artwork, so I stayed after the meeting and talked to him briefly. The thing is he didn't look at me directly the whole time we were talking. I mean, I don't know is it merely because he's a shy guy, or is there something else. Well, at least from all the people that I've fallen for so far, he's like the first one that I might actually have a chance with since he's gay... But then again, he's totally out of my league, so maybe I'm just giving myself unrealistic hope again.
Anyway, in my last entry I forgot to mention that I've updated a couple new cam pictures. So if you guys are interested in what my new room looks like, go take a peek.

Mike | 2004 10 01 | 04:57 AM PST
A fun project is always nice. Unlike the boring ones I get. =( Anything can happen, maybe that dude likes you back? So just give it a try. lol did that make sense?

Steven | 2004 10 01 | 04:05 PM PST
