Today Diego, Dan, Kiet, Hide, Lee, and I went to the Rally Against Hate put on by the San Diego LGBT Community Center and San Diego Pride in response to the attack on six gay men happened last Sunday after the Pride festival. There were a lot of major political people there, and the rally was pretty nice I think. A way of saying that our community cares and we react when shit like this happens.

I stayed up until 3am this morning to do some last minute homework, and I had to wake up at 5:30am to catch the bus to school for my 8am class. So, today was a long day for me even though nothing much was going on.
There was a flower delivery this afternoon. I answered the door and was shocked to find that the flower was for me. At first I thought it was probably for Jen from her boyfriend or something. It was from my big brother and it came with this card from him telling me not to stress out over some stuff with my department. I don't think I've ever gotten flower before, so this is my first time. It was truly heart-warming and definitely brought a smile to my face.
I got a think BLUE bracelet yesterday on campus. Too bad they don't have any youth size yet, but I absolutely LOVE mine. Totally supporting the cause and hopefully by 2008 people in this country won't be blinded by those so-called "moral values" and blind "patrioticism" anymore.
Read this article from The New Frontier, a new Liberal newspaper on campus. I thought it was just a great article. The Canadian Prime Minister is way awesome, and I couldn't have said it better myself. We should all remember that "separate but equal is never equal". Remember the civil rights movement and learn from history. Just want to share it with you guys, especially with all those cool and awesome Canadians out there... . . . [more]

I did manage to follow through with my plan, and totally fixed up my Open-Mind clique. I made a new layout for it, implemented the clique script, and moved the clique onto my domain on Saturday. Then it took me my entire Sunday to re-add all the old members. It was also a great opportunity for me to take out websites that are no longer active. I had almost 400 members before, and after the whole re-adding and cleaning up process, I lost almost half of the members. So, if you're not yet a member, please do join and support the cause of my clique.
Talking about the cause of my clique, it is like a perfect timing, since it is Martin Luther King Day today. Nowadays people look back into the time of racial segregation and racism, and think about how such discriminatory things could happen; how anyone in their right mind could do such things. But some people just never see how history is repeating itself. The only difference is the target of discrimination. First it was blacks, then it was women, now it is gays and lesbians. People in 11 states support a constitutional amendment to ban gay-marriage? Illegal to marry the person you love? Please explain this to me.
Well, Martin Lurther King Jr. had fought to end discrimination of race. Right now, we're fighting for equality and the end to discrimination of gays. We might not be able to win this battle today, but hopefully we will in a near future. But one thing can be certain, generations later, when people look back at our time period, they're going to wonder how ridiculous this is; how is it wrong to love another person regardless of their gender?
I've also included an article, basically talking about the same thing I did in the above entry but in greater details. Feel free to read through it if you have the time. . . . [more]

>> Moral Values??

Before anything, I would like to say that this entry is my opinion regarding this year's election and its outcome. For someone who might not agree with my point of views, this can be offensive. However, I'm not going to tell people to leave or not to read it simply because of that. I believe that everyone has the right to go to whatever websites they want and read whatever as they wish, but I also hope that people would respect my right of expressing my opinions on my own website. Reading my blog is not mandatory and people are free to choose whether to read it or not, but please respect my right as well.
To be very honest, the outcome of this election was a shock and a real surprise to me. I thought it would at least be a close race if not Kerry leading; but it turned out to be nowhere close with Bush winning with 51% of the popular votes. Indeed it was a huge disappointment for me, not only because Kerry didn't win, but also because a majority of people in this country approved of Bush and his administration. It is believed that the deciding issue of this election's outcome were "moral values", and for that I've one response: This country is fucked up! I really don't understand, please explain to me what is so moral about bombing the heck out of other countries and killing thousands of innocent lives? Yes, I agree that September 11 was truly a tragedy, but that doesn't give us the right or excuse to do the same thing (or possibily worse) to other countries. Revenge is never the solution; capturing the one who's responsible should be the priority! What the war is doing now is sending more American soldiers to die everyday. Also, tell me what is so moral about discriminating a group of people based on their sexuality and denying their rights to marriage (and other legal benefits that come with it) merely because they don't share the same beliefs you do and that (let's face it) you don't like them! What is so wrong about two people loving and caring for each other even though they're the same sex? So, the majority of this country is telling me that they would rather keep bombing other countries and killing more people than let two lovers get married and get the rights and benefits they deserved (the same rights and benefits that so many others have taken for granted)? What kind of message are we sending out as a nation? What kind of moral values are these?
I wish I hadn't cared as much as I did... after all, what can we do anyway? As minorities, all we can do is just sit and let the majority tell us what we can and can't do. Basically, if you're a soldiers, you'll be sent to fight a war that is irrelevant to defending this country, and if you die, your death is not even media-worthy; all the nation cares about is getting the oil and lowering the gas prices. If you're a veteran, your sacrifices don't worth anything; you're useless now and therefore your benefits will be cut so that there can be more tax cut. If you're a homosexual, you're rights are taken away because this is a country ruled by straights and they don't want you to get what they get. Your love isn't "real" anyway; it would be better for everyone if you just leave the country and go somewhere else. If you're a woman, you don't have a choice about your body; abortion is not an option in this country. Who cares how you got pregnant, you're going to have your baby no matter what; even if you got raped and your life is now ruined, no one cares about how you feel or what you have to go through if you have the baby, all that matters is you're having that baby because the child's life is way more important than the mother's. These are now the moral values defining this country...

Tuesday night in my Media class we watched Peeping Tom, which is one pretty weird, old British movie. Then on Wednesday morning our TA showed us The Piano Teacher, which is another messed up film, during our discussion session. The Piano Teacher is a recent French movie came out about 3 years ago. It is based on a book, and I heard that the author of that book just won the Nobel Literature Prize this year. The story is really fucked up though. You guys will have to watch it to know what I mean, but I won't recommend watching it since it's so fucked up!! Am I contradicting myself?
Oh anyway... have you guys watched the last presidential debate last night? Well, after watching it, all I've to say is FUCK BUSH!! That mother-fuckin' idiot makes me so mad!! When asked if he thinks that homosexuality is a choice, his answer was "I don't know. But we need to defend the institution of marriage! I'm proposing a constitutional amendment to protect marriage!" What kinda answer is that!? Especially coming out of the mouth of the President!? First of all, go fuckin' do some research if you don't know whether homosexuality is a choice or not, or just simply go up to a gay person and ask!? Second of all, whether it's a choice or not, it doesn't give you the right to discriminate against a certain group of citizens! Yes, marriage might be a religious institution, but it's not when it involved all the federal rights and legal issues. If you wanna protect your "marriage", fine, fuckin' change the name to civil union for everyone on the legal level; disassociating it from the religious aspect! Separation of church and state, ever heard of that? And don't you dare use God's words to back up your so-called "argument"! True Christians don't judge others; they LOVE their neighbours! Don't fuckin' call yourself a Christian when you're bombing the heck out of other countries and killing massive amount of innocent people.
