>> Wearing Myself Thin

I've 2 midterm papers for Sociology of Sexuality and a 20-page draft for my Upper-division Practicum Writing course due this Thursday, and yet I constantly find myself doing anything else but them. Yesterday afternoon I managed to spent more than 3 hours approving 1500+ pending members on Open-Mind, getting it back to a manageable state. In case you haven't noticed yet, I also updated my picture on the left. The picture is now randomly generated everytime the page is loaded. I just can't get enough of myself I guess. :) Then I stayed up really late working on a T-shirt design for this year's Kiss-In, but it is an emergency 'cause they need to turn in the design by Wednesday in order to have the shirts made before Valentine's Day.
Today at work, I finally got a blog set-up for the newsletter. Seriously, I hate ASP so much I wish the guy who invented ASP was never born. The blog uses Access for its database and there was this connection error that took me forever to figure out. Well, at least I got it to work, so now I just need to make a layout for it and it should be good to go. After work, I pretty much spent the rest of the day catching up with sleep. Then tonight we had our first rush event of this semester. We had a great turn out and what not. But I think I'm wearing myself thin.

The long-awaited (or was it?) new layout is finally here. Since I was starting almost from scratch with this new version, It took me nearly two weeks to get everything done. As you can tell, this layout style is quite different from my previous layouts. The design is cleaner and more dynamic than before. This is also the first time I utilize my personal photos instead of stock ones. In terms of content, I've taken out many sections I deemed unnecessary; basically gearing this site toward a personal blog rather than a bundled personal site. I've also begun archiving my blog with categories, as you might've noticed on the left. So I'm in the process of going back and slowly re-categorize my past entries. This will be an on-going process that won't just happen overnight. One thing that remains the same is pretty much the concept that all these changes to the site reflect on real life experience. To me, Dabs has become more personal than ever. Please don't hesitate to leave me any feedback or comments on this new version.

>> New Layout Coming Soon

On the edge of my 22nd birthday, I've decided to make a new layout for Dabs (finally!). Actually, I've been meaning to change the layout for an awfully long time. This current election-themed layout has been up for far too long. I have just been so caught up with my offline life this past year. (hm... shouldn't that be a good thing?) Anyway, I've finally made up my mind, and have started working on this new layout two days ago. I should probably say a new website... since I'm actually recreating the entire website from scatch, instead of simply changing the graphics with the old template like I used to do with my past layouts. I'm putting in a lot of time and energy into this and I really hope that it'll turn out great. All I have left to say is... look forward to it, please.

It is truly amazing how some people can have such a huge impact on your life while they might not even notice or care about your existence. Ironic, isn't it?
I've been in a good mood ever since the conference, not stressed out over anything. A lot of time, it's all about your perspective on life and how you look at things. This is a relatively relaxing week for me. No exams, no big projects, just the usual weekly assignments and readings. Perhaps I can finally catch up with some of my creativity and make a new layout, or a wallpaper or two. It would be a great idea indeed, especially since this layout has been up for ages; dabs need a new layout badly. We'll see how it goes. If you haven't done so already, please go join Open-Mind. It needs your support.
[ADDED 22:23 PM] Good news, I just got an email from the faculty advisor of the Visual Arts department. He is totally helping me out and now I don't have to stay for two extra quarters. I'm totally impressed. He went out of his way to get things settled for me. That was so nice of him. Well, now I just need to go back to talk to an advisor and figure out a quarterly plan for the next 4 quarters and I'll be all set.

Okay, I've been working on version eighteen this entire weekend. I started on Friday afternoon and got the layout down Saturday afternoon... However, the actually setting up time was much longer than I could've expected. As you might've noticed already, I've finally moved dabs onto my own domain clemish.com. I've gotten the domain for more than 2 weeks but I just didn't have the time to set it up. Since I've been wanting to make a new layout for dabs, and not willing to neglect the domain any longer, I decided to move my blog onto it. I thought It would also be a great chance for me to switch from Greymatter to MovableType, since I've heard quite a few good things about MovableType and it seems a bit more popular and more advanced than Greymatter. So, after getting the layout done, I started transferring the files and setting up MovableType this morning. However, it took WAY longer that I thought it would and I ended up spending the entire day trying to import my old entries and figure out all the templates. Besides the new blogging system, I've also embedded a new counter/statistic thing, which I'm very pleased with. Most of the things should be working but there are still a few sections I didn't get to finish. I'm planning to redo all the fanlisting, clique, and affiliate pages with some PHP scripts. Hopefully I'll get those done soon. We'll see how that goes.
Anyway, let's talk about the new version. First of all, I'll have to say that this layout is quite meaningful to me, since it reflects what's actually going on in my life lately. Ever since I moved here to San Diego, I've joined a couple LGBT-related student associations at school and been trying to be true to myself. I think this layout express that quite well. In addition, as the 2004 Presidential Election day getting closer, I really want people to get involved and stand up for what they believe! People need to get informed and educate themselves about what's going on, and VOTE! So this is somewhat a political layout concerning that. This is also a 3-year anniversary layout for dabs. On the 25th of this month, dabs will be celebrating its 3 yo birthday! How exciting!! So, I hope you guys like it, and please let me know what do you think about it. The phrases on the splash page are from a song called "No Matter What" by Boyzone, which I think fit the topic of this layout quite well. Complete lyrics can be found here... . . . [more]

Yeah, the long awaited version seventeen is finally here. I started working on this layout on Wednesday and got the design all figured out. But I was remaking the entire website into php for easier management. That's why I didn't get it done until tonight. Anyway, this is a somewhat happy and fun looking layout comparing to the last several ones. I guess this layout is somewhat a reflection of how I feel. Without all the responsibilities and pressure I had when I was studying in the States all by myself, this summer without doubt is the most relaxing and enjoyable in these several years. That's why I like to make a fun looking layout rather than a serious or depress one. Anyway, the two guys featuring in the layout are from a Hong Kong pop group Boy'z. I've been listening to quite a bit Hong Kong pop music this summer, and Boy'z is like my favorite group, not to mention that they're both gorgeous! I hope you guys enjoy this layout as much as I do. Don't forget to let me know what do you think about it.
My mom gave me a haircut this afternoon, and I must say, it was pretty good. Even thought my hairs are a bit short... Oh well, I was the one kept telling her to cut it shorter. I'm gonna be leaving for the States next Sunday, so I thought if she cut it shorter then I don't have to get another haircut anytime soon. I mean, it's still pretty good looking; it's just that I look like a freaking 14 years old. Anyway, I'll try to take a picture and put it up, so you guys can let me know.

Sorry for not posting for a looooong time. I have been making a new website for Rafael's band and volunteering at a nearby youth center this past two weeks. I've to remake the entire Airman Basic website from scratch because the old one was so simple and undeveloped, and the main and most important reason - I'm so tired and sick of it. So I decided to remake the entire site literally from scratch up. Now I've gotten the layout and template done, plus the counter, news-posting system, and forum. Hopefully I'll be able to get it done as soon as possible since I also need to work on the website for a project I'm volunteering on at the youth center. Besides all these, I would like to make a new layout for Dabs and Open Mind as well.
Let's talk about my voluntary work at the youth center. We have a project called Fly High which helps and counsels this year's HKCEE candidates, supporting them on emotional level as well as providing them with information about their future and such. We've had several training sessions these past weeks. In fact, we just had a training camp this last Sunday which equiped all of us with information and basic counseling techniques. I'm also working on a website for project Fly High. Luckily I don't have to make the entire site myself. MY job is just getting the layout done, and a few other people are doing the content and such. I just got the layout done last night and a sneak peek can be seen here. Please let me know what do you think. Anyway, that's just a temporary location for the layout. We've another meeting tonight and hopefully I'll be able to get the upload information.

Yeah. I got this super sweet fansign from Scott. He is so sweet and I love him dearly!

The temperature has remained high today. It was like boiling. I went to school at 11am and stayed there until 5pm to study for my Calculus exam that's tomorrow. Stephen was there also until 4pm. I got most of my stuff down, and I feel pretty confident about the exam. I took a 3 hour nap from 6 to 9pm tonight 'cause it was just too hot. Hot weather makes people tired and lazy.

First of all, I've great news! You know all the university in California are sending out admission notices to transfer students in late April? I've been waiting for mine but they never come and this coming week is like the last week of April, so I went online today and checked my application status. And I found out that I've been accepted into UCSD!! There was this semi-official online admission notice on the admission decision page in my applicant account. I was so excited that I couldn't believe it was happening. I guess I should get the official acceptance letter and package in the mail sometime this week. I've applied to three schools: UCLA, UCSD, and San Jose State. Among the three I only wanted to go to either UCLA or UCSD. SJSU was more like a backup school in case I didn't get in the first two. I haven't heard from UCLA yet, but I'm happy nevertheless.
Anyway, as you can see. I've put up a new layout. The last one was nice, but it was up for three months, so I guess it's time for a change. This layout didn't turn out as nice as I thought it would. This was inspired by a same-titled song by The Ataris. I've been listening to their music for a long time and they're one of my all time favorite bands. "In This Diary" is the song that got me hooked to them. It has such awesome lyrics. I've featured the lyrics on the layout, but if they're hard to read, I've also attached the lyrics in the extended section of this entry. Anyway, this layout is kinda plain and simple design wise. That was part of my intention also. Anyway, let me know what do you think about it, alright? . . . [more]

I started working on a new layout last night. I had these great ideas on my head, but the layout turned out not as nice as I thought it would. I'm a bit disappointed. I mean, I'll still get it coded and put it up sometime this weekend, but please don't expect too much. I think I might have to close up my blog or change the address cause my roommate Vladi's girlfriend, Jenny has found the url. I mean, she was nice enough to ask if she could go check it out. I just told her that I was making a new layout so she should go after it's done. I don't know did she really come check it out or not. I just hope she didn't or if she did she didn't bother to read my journal entries. I hate when people I know in real life found out about my blog, cause this is like my real personal journal/diary thing that I write all my thoughts and feelings down. I really don't want to not write something because of some people are reading it. I should be able to write whatever I want in my own blog. I want to write for no one but myself. This is how I feel, but can I do it?
Anyway, this afternoon Vladi and I went to watch Kill Bill Vol.2. It was alright. Vol.2 was more story driven, yet the plot wasn't that interesting for a movie. It also wasn't as much action nor gory comparing to vol.1. But I'm not a big fan of the first one to begin with, so ya. After I came back from the movie, there was this psycho guy just poped up on my AIM and started talking shit to me. I've no idea who the fuck that was and I don't think I even know him. It was just messed up. I just hope that he would fuckin' leave me alone.
Tonight I went down to some beach in Santa Cruz with Vladi for a little bit. We bought a chemical log that supposed to last 4 hours and some marshmallow, and set up a little bonfire on the beach. No one else wanna go, so it was just me and Vladi. He has never had a bonfire since he moved here, so he wanted to have one real bad. It was fun, there were quite a few people having bonfire on the beach tonight. . . . [more]
